Our Martyrs illuminate our way and goal.
Kurds have no other friends than the mountain- says the old Kurdish saying. But comrades from all parts of the World, who are joining the struggle in Rojava against ISIS, for humanıty, are prooving this point is not true anymore.
Keith Lewis Broomfield (gelhat rûmet) from Westminster, Massachussets was a true friend, comrade, hewal. He left the USA during the siege of Kobani because he wanted to joın the struggle of YPG, to defend the the people of Rojava from the massacres of Daesh. He has seen the photos from Kobani, heard the stories and saw that governements are not helping enough.
He took his backpack, flew to Turkey and arrived to Suruc, the Turkish town closest to the Syrian border in the middle February. He was looking for ways to join the fight against İSİS as soon as possible. We met in a tent where he was waiting for someone to take him over the border at night.
He told us: ‘how can I do nothing when I have two arms to fight with? People are killed in horrific ways in Rojava, and no governement is helping much. They don’t care, but I do care very much. It is a fight İ believe in, and even if I die it was worth it’.
He joined the YPG in the end of February and has fought with courage and honour til the 3rd June 2015, when he was martyred in Qentere, a village by Kobani, during a battle against the terrorist Daesh.
He was only 36 years old, and the first American volunteer who has sacrificed his own life in order to save lives on the other side of the World. Our heart goes to his family and friends. We will never forget you, Heval, may you rest in peace.
